Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10)

What it measures

Coenzyme Q10 (also called ubiquinone) is a fat-soluble, vitamin-like molecule present in nearly all cells. It plays a central role in the mitochondria — the cell's energy factories — carrying electrons along the chain that generates the body's main energy currency, and it also works as an antioxidant protecting cell membranes. The body synthesises most of its own CoQ10, and some comes from food (meat, fish, nuts, oils), so blood levels are usually adequate without supplements.
